An exhibition by Ruth Hickman

Paintings explore tension and harmony between the organic and the constructed. The exhibition brings together two distinct visual languages – fluid acrylic gestures and the disciplined precision of wrapped thread – to examine how opposing forces can coexist within a single surface. The interplay between paint and thread is crucial – stitched lines act as both connectors and boundaries – they tether the abstract forms while simultaneously implying tension and fragility. The surface shifts between control and chance, giving the sense that the artist is mapping something intangible: perhaps emotion, time, or loss.

This series examine linkage, flow, and resonance – how elements communicate across space. The stitched lines evolve from boundaries into bridges, threads that weave one form into another rather than dividing them, moving towards an expression of the invisible architecture of relationships, energy, or shared memory.

Ruth aims to provide a dynamic and immersive environment that encourages viewers to experience art in a more engaging and spatially integrated way. A series of canvases, stretched and unstretched, vary in size from very small to large scale.
