Twenty years ago, the heat became unbearable. In desperation, humanity deployed a planetary shroud that blocked the sun’s light and heat. Seasons vanished, the natural world withered, and civilization rebuilt itself around artificial light. Set in the Waikato inside a chain superstore called Daylight Savings, three young workers and their manager grind through another endless shift. Everything changes when two intruders arrive with a daring plan to bring back daytime.

Daylight Savings is an award-nominated comedy by Melanie Allison. Premiering as a staged reading at The Meteor in 2024’s HIKO! Festival, Daylight Savings has since been developed by a diverse cast for its first fully-staged season.
