A humble scone, freeze dried popcorn or caviar – it’s all on the table at one of Hamilton’s funkiest eateries.

A passion project by Lerryn Hawken and partner Jess Keown, Little Honey is proving popular as they celebrate their one-year anniversary.

The foodie couple took the plunge into cafe ownership after deciding they wanted to recreate a space like their old haunt the Metropolis Caffe.

“There’s some awesome cafes around the place like Kopi, but we felt like Hamilton was kind of missing some progressive food spots that aren’t just pulling stuff out of packets.

“When it came to here, we had to make everything from scratch so we make the bread, we make our own butter. We’re super nerdy and we grow our own mushrooms here too, so we just do it differently and we do it honestly.

“The rules of our kitchen is that we don’t care about the price and we don’t care about the time it takes to make it,” Hawken said.

They have a rule that no matter what time of day it is, you can order anything from the day or night menu and the team will always do their best to accommodate – even staying up till 3am to serve Aucklanders coming down.
