The Hamilton store making second-hand clothing a wardrobe staple

Jahdiel Mason is on a mission to prove that pre-loved fashion has a place in every wardrobe.

She’s the owner of Different Avenue, a consignment store in the heart of Hamilton. Every piece hanging on the racks, ranging from handmade knitwear to designer New Zealand brands, is second-hand.

“For us, the whole purpose of the store is trying to encourage someone who wouldn’t usually choose second-hand as their first option to maybe look at it,” she said.

According to textile recycling company ImpacTex, about 180,000 tonnes of textile and clothing waste goes into New Zealand landfills each year.
