Endangered Species National Hui 2026

Endangered Species National Hui 2026
Upcoming Event
Where:
The Atrium, Wintec Hamilton, Waikato
When:
2 Sep 2026, 8:00am – 3 Sep 2026, 5:00pm

Join communities, iwi, scientists, researchers, conservation practitioners and rangatahi from across New Zealand for two days of inspiration, connection and collective action at the Endangered Species Hui 2026.

From tuna and kanakana to wetlands and catchment restoration, the programme features many of the country’s leading freshwater experts and community groups. Hear from Tāwera Nikau on restoring Lake Waikare, Riki Parata on kanakana (piharau / lamprey) revival, Siobhan Nuri on the latest tuna research, and Wendy Ambury from the Love Bittern Project on mobilising communities to restore wetlands.

The hui also shares advocacy, with Mike Smith sharing insights on climate action and community mobilisation, alongside stories from iwi and communities opposing seabed mining and bottom trawling.

If you’re involved in freshwater restoration, catchment management, biodiversity or community conservation, this is your opportunity to connect with others, share ideas and help strengthen restoration efforts across New Zealand.
