A walking guide
The best way to get to know Hamilton Central is on foot. Start at Garden Place, work your way down Victoria Street, and loop back along the river. Allow two hours — more if you stop for coffee.
What to look out for
- The heritage BNZ building (now The Bank Bar)
- The laneway art off Ward Street
- The riverside sculpture walk
- Independent cafés tucked into 1920s shopfronts
“Hamilton Central has more independent retail per square kilometre than Auckland’s K Road.” — NZ Herald, 2025
